Description
SikaRapid-2 is a liquid setting accelerator for concrete and mortar. It promotes early setting and strength development without negatively affecting final strength, enabling faster construction cycles and earlier use of concrete elements.
Applications
- Precast concrete
- Ready-mix concrete
- In-situ mixed concrete and mortars
- Slip-form concrete
- Concrete requiring fast early setting
- Concrete requiring early strength development
- Applications requiring earlier formwork removal
- Cold-weather concreting where accelerated setting is required
Benefits
- Accelerates concrete setting
- Increases strength development between 6–24 hours
- Promotes early green strength
- Accelerates setting in cold temperatures
- Provides faster resistance to frost
- Enables earlier demoulding of formwork
- Enables earlier removal of curing membranes
- Enables earlier loading or trafficking
- Reduces requirements for heat or steam curing
- No negative effect on final strength
- Does not contain chlorides
- Suitable for steel-reinforced concrete
- Compatible with superplasticisers
Application guidance
SikaRapid-2 is added to the concrete or mortar mix to accelerate setting and early strength development. Normal good concreting practices for production, placing and curing must be followed. Laboratory trials should be carried out before use, particularly when introducing a new concrete mix design or producing new concrete components. The optimum dosage depends on the concrete mix design, materials, temperature and required acceleration. Trial mixes should therefore be used to establish the appropriate dosage for the specific application. Fresh concrete must be properly cured according to recognised concreting practice.
Coverage
Recommended dosage: 1.0–2.0% by weight of cement. The optimum dosage should be established through trial mixes according to the required setting and early-strength performance.
