Description
Sikaflex-291i is a one-component polyurethane adhesive and sealant developed for marine applications. It cures on exposure to atmospheric moisture to form a durable elastomer and is suitable for making elastic, vibration-resistant seals on a wide range of interior and exterior substrates.
Applications
- Elastic sealing in marine applications
- Interior and exterior sealing joints
- Sealing applications exposed to vibration
- Bonding and sealing wood
- Bonding and sealing metals
- Bonding and sealing metal primers and paint coatings
- Bonding and sealing ceramic materials
- Bonding and sealing plastics where compatibility has been confirmed
Benefits
- Marine wheelmark approved
- One-component formulation
- Elastic and vibration resistant
- Low odour
- Non-corrosive
- Good adhesion to a wide range of marine construction materials
- Can be sanded
- Can be overpainted with compatible paint systems
- Electrically non-conductive
Application guidance
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from grease, oil, dust and other contaminants. Surface preparation depends on the substrate and is important for durable adhesion. Follow the applicable Sika surface-preparation recommendations for the materials being bonded or sealed. Apply Sikaflex-291i using a suitable manual, pneumatic or electric dispensing gun. Tool the joint within the product's skin time. For bonding applications, assemble components while the adhesive is still within its working time and maintain the required position until sufficient strength has developed. Compatibility and adhesion should be verified on the actual substrate before use, particularly with plastics and painted surfaces.
Coverage
Consumption depends on the joint dimensions or bonding application. A 300 ml cartridge provides approximately 3 m of a 10 × 10 mm joint.
